The aims of the website are mainly to focus on the function and activities of The Environmental and Food Special Interest Group (EFASIG) of the BMSS with arrangement of meetings at intervals.

Since the formation of the SIG, meetings have been held in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016 with WWEM in 2014 and 2016.

EFASIG2017 was held on July 19, 2017 at The Auditorium, Analytical Research & Development,  in Southampton, hosted by Dr Chris Wright.

A further meeting involving EFASIG was held on November 21 & 22, 2018, at The International Centre, Telford, and formed part of the WWEM2018 Conference and Exhibitions, in an Analytical Developments Conference in concert with The RSC Water Science Forum and the Separation Science Group . 

The EFASIG2019 meeting was held at Manchester Metropolitan University on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. An e-abstract booklet is available to delegates and can be accessed on request to the organisers.

The EFASIG2020 meeting was to be held at the University of Leicester, College Court on July 23, 2020 but has been postponed and will be re-covened in 2021 assuming that COVID 19 has abated and will allow fafce to face meetings to be arranged.

Current meeting arrangements:

The organising group have been communicating remotely to discuss the organisation of a virtualEFASIG2020 meeting for a July start. The website has a page devoted to VEFASIG2020 click here, which is designed to act as a backup for the meeting being arranged through BMSS.

The meeting arrangements and details, including registration and abstract submission, are now available on line at for biweekly EFASIG2020 zoom events which commenced on July 30, 2020 at 10.00 am. The keynote speaker was Professor Barbara Kasprzyk-Hodern, University of Bath, who presented a talk entitled ‘Water Fingerprinting for Public Health Assessment’. On August 13, the keynote was presented by Dr Roxana Suehring on ‘Navigating the Chemical Soup’ followed by a short talk by Neville Llewellyn, Thermofisher.

The keynote in the next biweekly meeting on August 27 was presented by Dr Joanne Roberts, Glasgow Caledonian University with a follow up presentation by Scott Campbell, Spectral Works. full details can be accessed by visiting the meeting page for EFASIG2020 on the BMSS website.

The September 09 biweekly meeting featured Prof. Kieran Kilcawley, Teasgasc and University of Cork who presented "Authentication of Dairy Products from Grass Based Production Systems". The second speaker from Brazil was unable to attend.

The organisers decided to continue the meetings on a monthly basis commencing on October 08. Dr Caroline Gauchotte Lindsay officiated and the focus will bewasics. The keynote speaker was Javier Jimenez Lamana, Universite de Pau et Des Pays de l’Adour whose talk is entitled Detection and quantification of model nano-plastics by ICP-MS. The second speaker was Dr Helen Martin, Thermal Desorption Business Unit Manager, Markes International Ltd.
